Omaha’s Zoo and Aquarium Mourns Loss of Giraffe

Omaha’s Zoo and Aquarium sadly announces the death of Dottie, a female Giraffe, yesterday, May 31, 2022. She was 22 years, 8 months, and 19 days old. Dottie was the oldest giraffe currently living at Omaha’s Zoo & Aquarium. Dottie was born on Sept. 13, 1999, and has been a resident of Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium her whole life. Zoo Saddened By Loss of Giraffe Matriarch

Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium is saddened by the loss of a female Giraffe, Daisy, today, Dec. 18. She was 26 years, 9 months, and 11 days old. Daisy is the oldest giraffe ever to live at Omaha’s Zoo & Aquarium.  The average life expectancy for a female giraffe is about 20.2 years and for a male is about 14.7 years. Omaha's Zoo and Aquarium Welcomes Giraffe Calf

Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium welcomed a female giraffe calf on April 16 at 8:45 a.m. This is the third calf to mother Dottie, a 19-year-old female giraffe, and Jawara, a 10-year-old male. The last giraffe calf born at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium was Penelope in November 2017. The calf weighed 152 pounds and was measured around six feet tall 24 hours after birth. New Behind-the-Scenes Experiences!

Registration is now open for three additional behind-the-scenes experiences at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium. Giraffe Backstage Pass Meet the Zoo’s herd of reticulated giraffes as you tour exclusive behind-the-scenes areas in the Syd and Betty Cate Family Giraffe Herd Rooms.
