Zoo Classes

Get WILD with us as we help children gain a deeper connection with the Zoo wildlife through fun, engaging, and inspiring experiences and programs. 

Ages 0-2

Class Fee $10 - One adult is required to attend and is included in the program fee

Leap into the world of stroller discovery as we start with a fun story, walk, talk, and learn about specific animals. Don’t forget the stroller!

Class Fee $15 - One adult is required to attend and is included in the program fee

Gather your gear and join our explorers program for 2-3 year old children. We will uncover a wide variety of topics including colors, patterns, shapes, habitats, and biomes. Imagine the discoveries that will be made!

January 29th  8-10 am - Penguin Awareness Photography Class   SOLD OUT
 
No need to travel to Southern Hemisphere to capture the beauty of King, Gentoo, and Rockhopper penguins. In celebration of Penguin Awareness Day* come to the Omaha Zoo to spend a morning photographing penguins interacting in their exhibit located in the Scott Aquarium. While you are working, you will learn about these penguins behaviors and lifestyle as well as conservation issues different species face in the wild. You will even get the inside scoop from one of our own Penguin Keepers about their life here at the Zoo! This experience will be before general admission hours to ensure a private viewing of the penguin exhibit.

This class is run by the talented Mike Benkis, who will teach you photography skills needed to get the perfect shot through exhibit obstacles such as glass, quick moving targets, and underwater shots. See more information on your instructor below.

May 21st   8-10 am - Endangered Species Photography Class

There are over 41,400 species listed on the IUCN Red List, with the number growing every day. Help us celebrate Endangered Species Month by highlighting the beauty of endangered species through photography. Our Zoo is home to many different endangered animals from the African Elephant to the Salt Creek Tiger Beetle. As part of this experience you will take a tour through our Center for Conservation research and learn about how the Omaha Zoo aids in the survival of endangered species. The first hour of this class will be before general admission hours to ensure a private viewing of our exhibits. Space is limited and registration is required.

Mike is a Nebraska native that started in Wildlife photography back in 2014 and has had his work published by the Omaha World Herald, Nebraskaland Magazine, Omaha Audubon Society, Nebraska Games and Parks, and various other publications.  He has always been passionate about wildlife, especially birds.  A clean, bold, dramatic, artistic photographic style has become the hallmark of his work.
