Zoo Classes

Get WILD with us as we help children gain a deeper connection with the Zoo wildlife through fun, engaging, and inspiring experiences and programs. 

Ages 0-2

Stroller Safari

Pack up the stroller and bring your walking shoes and bring your little one on an early learning adventure as we stroll through the Zoo. This class is designed for one adult and children 0-2 years of age.  Make new friends while you visit animal exhibits, listen to a story and learn new things too! Programs run 1:30-2pm. 

Class Fee $10 - One adult is required to attend and is included in the program fee

Sep 6 - Animal Opposites - Some animals are big, and some are small, some are from cold places and some are from hot places. Come learn about these and many other opposites!

Oct 4 - What was That? Hoot ,growl, quack, and hiss! Animals seem to have a lot to talk about.

Nov 1 - Hands on - Touch and feel your way through this adventure as we explore pelts, feathers, fur and a variety of other things.

Ages 2-3

Early Explorers

Early Explorers is an early childhood program designed for one adult and children 2–3-year-olds. Participants will listen to an animal themed story, visit animal exhibits, and create animal art using a various mediums. Programs run 1:30-2:15pm. 

Class Fee $15 - One adult is required to attend and is included in the program fee.

Aug 16 - Rocking in the Rainforest - Put your dancing shoes on and explore the animals of the rainforest!

Sep 13 - Animals 1, 2, 3 - Counting is more fun with animal friends! We will practice counting as we learn about the animals at the Zoo!

Oct 11- Oh Baby! Help us welcome some new faces to the Zoo. Did you know animals have babies too? Learn how different animals raise their young.

Nov 8 - Noisy Zoo - Bark like a sea lion, roar like a lion, and howl like a monkey as we explore the noisy world of animal sounds.

Ages 3-5

Preschool Pals

Join our Preschool Pals Class for an interactive educational experience designed for preschool-aged children! These themed programs created for children ages 3-5 include: stories, crafts, and visits from an animal ambassadors. One adult is required to attend with each child. Programs run 1:30-2:30pm. 

Class Fee $20 - One adult is required to attend and is included in the program fee

Aug 23 - Tigers on the Prowl -  Do you spend your day stalking, springing, scratching and swimming? You would if you were a tiger! Discover how tigers mark their territory and use their tails to communicate.

Sep 20 - Penguin Power - Dive into the world of penguins! Slide on your belly, balance an egg on your feet and “swim” in search of fish like a penguin. Waddle over to see the Zoo’s penguins and check out some cool penguin eggs and feathers.

Oct 18 - Sensory Safari - Can you see like a hawk? Can you hear like an elephant? Animals have amazing abilities to hear, see, smell, touch, and taste. Explore all of the sense-sational animals at the zoo and test your sense against theirs!

Nov 15 - Jr. Zoo Keeper - Learn what it takes to care for the animals at the Zoo from people who do it every day.

Ages 6-8

Programs run 10:00-11:00am.

Class Fee $20

Aug 13 - Zoo Traveler - Create your own nature journal and then journey around the Zoo like a scientist “in the field” to find and observe animals. Which animals did you see on your adventure, and what captured your interest the most? Trek back to our classroom to design a miniature model of your favorite animal in their wild or Zoo habitat.

Sep 24 - Our Blue Planet - Explore the water that covers over 70% of our Earth. Children will learn about fresh and salt water and discover the life that lives within it.

Oct 8 - What goes bump in the night? Did you hear that? Join us as we uncover a variety of animals that love the night life!

Nov 19 - Thankful for our Zoo - Join us as we make “Fall themed” enrichment for some of our favorite animals.

Marine Biology Series-Life under water is amazing. Discover the countless creatures that call the water their home and meet a few of our very own water-loving animal crew members. Programs run 10am-12pm.

Family Classes

Family Classes

Family classes are geared towards parents and children 3-8. We will read a story, create enrichment for the animals, visit exhibits and learn some interesting facts.

Class Fee $15 - Any adults and children over the age of 2 must register

Storytime/Playgroup

Come on down to the zoo and meet new friends, listen to a story, play with awesome toys, and learn the benefits of play for children. One adult is required with each child. This program is designed for children 3 and under.

Mike is a Nebraska native that started in Wildlife photography back in 2014 and has had his work published by the Omaha World Herald, Nebraskaland Magazine, Omaha Audubon Society, Nebraska Games and Parks, and various other publications.  He has always been passionate about wildlife, especially birds.  A clean, bold, dramatic, artistic photographic style has become the hallmark of his work.
