Zoo Classes

Get WILD with us as we help children gain a deeper connection with the Zoo wildlife through fun, engaging, and inspiring experiences and programs. 

Ages 0-2

Stroller Safari

Pack up the stroller and bring your walking shoes and bring your little one on an early learning adventure as we stroll through the Zoo. This class is designed for one adult and children 0-2 years of age.  Make new friends while you visit animal exhibits, listen to a story and learn new things too!

Class Fee $10 - One adult is required to attend and is included in the program fee

March 1 - Animal Homes  1:00-1:30 PM

April 5 - Penguin Pals 1:00-1:30

May 3 - Oh Baby 1:00-1:30

Ages 2-3

Early Explorers

Early Explorers is an early childhood program designed for one adult and children 2–3-year-olds. Participants will listen to an animal themed story, visit animal exhibits, and create animal art using a various mediums.

Class Fee $15 - One adult is required to attend and is included in the program fee.

March 8 - Animal Sounds 1:00-1:45

April 12 - Froggy Fun 1:00-1:45

May 10 - Gigantic Gorillas 1:00-1:45

Preschool Pals

Join our Preschool Pals Class for an interactive educational experience designed for preschool-aged children! These themed programs created for children ages 3-5 include: stories, crafts, and visits from an animal ambassadors. One adult is required to attend with each child. 

Class Fee $20 - One adult is required to attend and is included in the program fee

March 5 - Animal Noses 10-11:00

April 19 - Terrific Turtles 1:00-2:00

May 7 - Armadillo Rodeo 10:00-11:00

Animal Snacks

Animal Snacks class is a program where we will make an animal themed snack, learn facts about what various animals eat, and explore exhibits throughout the Zoo.

Marine Scientists Classes

Life under water is amazing. Discover the countless creatures that call the water their home and meet a few of our very own water-loving animal crew members. 

February 19th - Marine Scientist-Sharks and Rays 9am-12pm

February 26th - Marine Scientist-Coral Reef Expedition 9am-12pm

March 5th - Marine Scientist Mammals 9am-12pm

March 12th - Marine Scientist-Aquatic Birds 9am-12pm

Family Classes

Family classes are geared towards parents and children 3-8. We will read a story, create enrichment for the animals, visit exhibits and learn some interesting facts.

Class Fee $15 - Any adults and children over the age of 2 must register

Storytime/Playgroup

Come on down to the zoo and meet new friends, listen to a story, play with awesome toys, and learn the benefits of play for children. One adult is required with each child. This program is designed for children 3 and under.

May 21st   8-10 am - Endangered Species Photography Class

There are over 41,400 species listed on the IUCN Red List, with the number growing every day. Help us celebrate Endangered Species Month by highlighting the beauty of endangered species through photography. Our Zoo is home to many different endangered animals from the African Elephant to the Salt Creek Tiger Beetle. As part of this experience you will take a tour through our Center for Conservation research and learn about how the Omaha Zoo aids in the survival of endangered species. The first hour of this class will be before general admission hours to ensure a private viewing of our exhibits. Space is limited and registration is required.  
 
Date: Saturday, 5/21/22
Cost: $40 per person

June 4 & June 5  8:00-10:00 am - Master Photography Class (Adult Class - 18 yrs and older)
 
Join us for a 2-day workshop where guests can learn from our Wildlife Photographer at the Zoo. The first day will be spent going over technical photography considerations, shooting lineups, thought processing for taking pictures of wildlife, stills, and outside elements. Day two will be for guests to bring their pictures in for feedback and live post processing of some of the images. We will be demonstrating how Mike turns some of his images he takes into a fine art pieces. 
 
Date: Saturday, June 4 & Sunday, June 5  8:00 am to 10:00 am
Cost: $150.00 per person

Photographer - Mike Benkis 
Mike is a Nebraska native that started in Wildlife photography back in 2014 and has had his work published by the Omaha World Herald, Nebraskaland Magazine, Omaha Audubon Society, Nebraska Games and Parks, and various other publications.  He has always been passionate about wildlife, especially birds.  A clean, bold, dramatic, artistic photographic style has become the hallmark of his work.
