Join our Nutrition Manager for a virtual behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to feed over 35,000 animals at the Zoo. The nutrition team at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium is responsible for keeping every animal at the Zoo and Wildlife Safari Park well-fed and healthy. Our browse team, diet kitchen staff, and nutrition lab researchers take on this huge task each day and are involved in cutting-edge science to help zoos and aquariums better understand animal nutrition. Very little is known about the nutritional requirements for most exotic species, so ongoing research is critical to improving longevity and reproduction of endangered species. Participants will learn how the various parts of the Nutrition Department work together to determine what each animal should be fed, acquire the best ingredients, prepare diets, and distribute food to the animal departments.
