Where do baby fish come from? A mommy and daddy fish that love each other very much? That’s only the start! Turns out baby fish are picky eaters, and their parents are long gone at that point. Our amazing aquarium team have the difficult job of raising those babies, and are some of the only aquarists in the world that have been successful. Join us behind the scenes in the aquarium to learn about our aquaculture program and their secret to success.
By striving to achieve greater sustainability of aquatic collections, the Omaha Zoo is protecting wild fish populations. Our aquarists work hard to raise the food necessary to grow fish from their larval stage all the way up to adults. The Omaha Zoo is a leader in this effort and has raised hundreds of fish species that are on display in our aquarium and other AZA institutions.
