News From Our Zoo Crew
On Saturday, August 4
th, 2012 the National Zoological Gardens of South Africa hosted the 3
rd Biodiversity Youth Symposium for high school students. This year’s theme was “Sustainable Energy for All”. As part of this symposium, members of Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium’s Zoo Crew high school volunteer program were asked to create and submit a video to show others around the world what steps are being taken in the Midwest of the United States to produce sustainable food and renewable energy alternatives for the future. To complete this assignment, volunteers conducted interviews with local agricultural professionals and did research on what efforts corporations in the Midwest are taking to promote sustainable energy and food production. While this video highlights some of their findings, the ultimate success of this project can be seen when these volunteers share their experiences and newfound knowledge with our guests while volunteering at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium.
