As an Association of Zoos and Aquarium (AZA) accredited institution, Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo
and Aquarium goes beyond the basic standards with 15 certified teachers and informal science educators on staff. There are also 60 part-time staff and over 450 adult and youth volunteers. Combining the staff and volunteers creates streamlined programs targeted at science, math and nature.

Volunteer at the Zoo
Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium has a variety of volunteer groups for all ages. Volunteer work at Omaha's Zoo and Aquarium involves spending time with like minded individuals while helping the Zoo accomplish its many goals.
Since 1995, Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium has been involved in a strong partnership with local school districts to provide advance high school zoology course and career exploration. In 2009, the Zoo Academy program expanded to a full day high school for Juniors and Seniors. Students are able to complete required science, math, Social studies and English classes at the Zoo.
Kindergarten Class at Omaha’s Zoo and Aquarium
As part of the Zoo’s Adopt-A-School program an all-day, on-grounds Zoo kindergarten class was started in 2004 in the Zoo’s Dairy Theater at the Children’s Area.
