Frilled Dragons Now on Display

Now on exhibit in the Sun Room of the Desert Dome are two Frilled Dragons. Hatched on August 28, 2012, these Frilled Dragons are the first hatched at Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium. At almost five months old the dragons weigh about .88 ounces which is how much a AA battery weighs.

Frilled Dragons get their name, which means "cloaked lizard", from the large ruff of skin at the back of the head. These Frilled Dragons are still adjusting to their new world and rely on their coloration to blend in and feel safe. The best place to spot them is on the back side of the branches.
