Member Appreciation Day Member Appreciation Days are fun-filled ways for Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium to say thank you for the support throughout the year. Members with last names beginning with A-L can enjoy the fun activities on Wednesday, July 27, 2016, from 1:30 to 7 p.m. Members with last names beginning with M-Z can enjoy the fun activities on Wednesday, August 3, 2016, from 1:30 to 7 p.m.

Dr. Gregory Skomal of Shark Week - July 29, 2016
Dr. Gregory Skomal, best known as the face of Discovery Channel’s Shark Week, will deliver a presentation on great white sharks and other species on Friday, July 29 at 6 p.m. in Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom Pavilion Auditorium. This is the third presentation of Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium’s speaker series being offered this year.

An underwater explorer, photographer and author, Skomal has been a senior fisheries scientist with Massachusetts Marine Fisheries since 1987 and currently heads up the Massachusetts Shark Research Program. Through the MSRP, Skomal has been actively involved in the study of life history, ecology and physiology of sharks. Much of his current research centers on the use of acoustic telemetry and satellite-based technology to study post-release survivorship, ecology and behavior of sharks.

The author of dozens of scientific research papers, he has appeared in a number of film and television documentaries, including programs for National Geographic, Discovery Channel, BBC and numerous television networks.

Tour de Zoo - August 4, 2016
Critter Ride

Bring your bike and ride during Tour de Zoo, a family fun event on August 4, 2016 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. There will be dinner, snacks and refreshments plus special animal encounters during the fun-filled evening.

**PLEASE NOTE THAT THE DATE FOR THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CHANGED FROM JULY 28 TO AUGUST 4, 2016. If you had already registered for the original date you will be contacted by the Zoo's Marketing Department.

If registered by July 19th, guests will receive a FREE T-shirt! Cost is $20 per person for Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium members and $25 per person for non-members. Children 2 and under are free, do not require a registration and will not receive a t-shirt. Reservations are required. Tour de Zoo is rain or shine. Registration fees are non-refundable.

The bike ride is an open format with water stations throughout the Zoo. Buildings are not open to ride through. Helmets are not required, but are recommended.

Ride-in registrations are available but will not receive a t-shirt.

Back to School Bash - August 6 - 7, 2016

Hey kids, before the bell rings for your first class this school year, visit Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium Saturday, August 6 and Sunday, August 7, 2016 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for one last hurrah! Get into the school spirit by hanging out with local mascots while enjoying kid-friendly music from Omaha Street Percussion.

Finish summer with a bash! Gate gifts, provided by Oriental Trading Company, will be given out, while supplies last. Event activities are free to Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium members or with regular paid Zoo admission.

Labor Day Weekend - September 3 - 5, 2016
Labor Day Weekend

Say goodbye to summer and hello to one last hurrah on Saturday, September 3 through Monday, September 5, 2016 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for Labor Day Weekend at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium! There will be wild entertainment including bounce houses, airbrush tattoos and special animal presentations for all ages.

Gate gifts, provided by Oriental Trading Company, will be given out, while supplies last.  Event activities are free to Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium members or with regular paid Zoo admission.

Zoo Run - September 11, 2016

Zoo Run

Lace up your shoes for the 36th annual Zoo Run on Sunday, September 11, 2016. This fun run is great for runners of all levels with the choice between a five mile run and a one mile run/walk. Check-in begins at 7 a.m. at the Main Entrance. The five-mile run departs at 8 a.m. and the one-mile run departs at 8:10 a.m.

Participants will receive bagels, bananas and free Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium admission on the day of the run.


If registered by August 25th, guests will receive a FREE t-shirt! Cost is $25 for Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium members and $30 for non-members. Children 2 and under are free, do not require a registration and will not receive a t-shirt. Zoo Run is rain or shine.

Reservations are required and non-refundable. Walk in registrations will be available, but guests will not receive a t-shirt.

Family Fiesta! - September 18, 2016

Join Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium Sunday, September 18, 2016 from noon to 5 p.m. for a fiesta the whole family can enjoy! The annual celebration highlights Latin American culture via dance and a live mariachi band while entertaining the kids with bounce houses, airbrush tattoos and much more. 

The first 500 visitors through the gates will be able to create their own Latin-inspired rhythm with a Fiesta Maraca instrument, provided by Oriental Trading Company. Event activities are free to Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium members or with regular paid Zoo admission.

Spooktacular - October 15, 16, 21, 22, 23, 28, 29 and 30, 2016

Bring your little ghouls and goblins to Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium® for Spooktacular presented by Hy-Vee. Join in the fun on October 115, 16, 21, 22, 23, 28, 29 and 30, 2016, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Purchase tickets in advance for $7 per person for Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium® members or $8 per person for non-members online or at Guest Services. Children 2 and under are free. Help us stay green by bringing your own trick-or-treat bag to fill with candy and other goodies.

When the sun goes down, what happens at the Zoo? Visit the Lied Jungle® to see free-flying bats or stop by Kingdoms of the Night® to see nocturnal animals during their daylight cycle. The evening includes admission to Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium after-hours, trick-or-treating and fun interactive activities. Get up close and personal with different Animal Ambassadors, special animals used for educating visitors, and enjoy balloon-twisted figurines from Omaha balloon artists. Meet your favorite characters for a fun photo opportunity at Storybook Lane. Come to Spooktacular, and get ready for a candy-munchin moon-howlin good time.

Spooktacular event tickets do not include general Zoo admission.  Event is rain or shine. Tickets are nonrefundable.

Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium's admission gates and exhibit buildings will close early on October 15, 16, 21, 22, 23, 28, 29, and 30.  Admission gates will close at 3:30 p.m. and exhibit buildings will close at 4:30 p.m.  Zoo grounds will be cleared at 4:30 p.m. with re-admittance beginning at 5:30 p.m. for the event with a pre-purchased ticket.

The train and Skyfari will also close at 3:45 p.m. during these nights.

Boo Bash - October 29, 2016

Join Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium for Boo Bash, an enchanted Halloween dinner, on Saturday, October 29 from 4 to 6 p.m. Meet and take pictures with special characters, participate in crafts and enjoy a ghoulishly fun dance party. Don't forget to wear your costume! Cost is $35 for Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium members and $40 for non-members. Children 2 and under are free. This unforgettable and exclusive dinner includes first-entry admission to Spooktacular.

Event is rain or shine. All children must be accompanied by a paid adult. Limited seats are available. Reservations are required and non-refundable.

Veteran's Recognition Day - November 11, 2016

Veteran's Recognition Day

In honor of those who proudly served our nation, Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium will be offering free gate admission to all veterans and their immediate families on Veteran’s Day, Friday, November 11, 2016. The free admission applies to active or retired Veterans and their immediate families.
 
Comedy Night - November 11 and 12, 2016

Join Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium for an evening of laughter as we host our fourth annual Comedy Night at the Zoo. This event is for adults 21 and over and takes place on Friday, November 11, and Saturday, November 12, 2016, from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. inside the Suzanne and Walter Scott Aquarium. Admission cost is $50 per person and includes heavy hors d‘oeuvres, two free drink tickets to our cash bar, special animal encounters and performances by two local comedians. With a cocktail in hand, it will be a night filled with laughs all around as guests are invited to take advantage of the beauty and serenity of the Scott Aquarium after-hours.

Reservations are required and will open in October.

Holiday Happenings - December 3, 10 and 17, 2016

Catch a glimpse of special holiday characters as they dive into the shark tunnel inside the Suzanne and Walter Scott Aquarium on Saturdays, December 3, 10 and 17, 2016, at 10:45 a.m. Also, Zoo residents will be getting special enrichment gifts throughout the day. Event activities are free to Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium members or with regular paid Zoo admission.

Penguins and Pancakes - December 26 - 30, 2016
Penguins and Pancakes

Join Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium for a formal affair – Penguins and Pancakes – on Monday, December 26, through Friday, December 30, 2016, from 8:30 to 10 a.m. (no formal-wear required).  Enjoy pancakes from The Pancake Man, crafts and animal visits from the African penguins. Cost is $15 for Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium members, $20 for non-members, children 2 and under are free and includes a pancake breakfast, plush penguin toy and admission to the Zoo.

Tickets are non-refundable. Event is rain or shine. All children must be accompanied by a paid adult.

Reservations are required and will open in early December.

Noon Year's Eve - December 31, 2016
Noon Year's Eve

10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1!  Party with the animals and celebrate New Year's Eve at Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium on Saturday, December 31, 2016, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Have a wild time with entertainment from Joe Cole’s Magic Show, fun activities and an early countdown to 2017 complete with a beach ball drop at noon.  Enjoy this fun family event without having to stay up until midnight. Event activities are free to Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium members or with regular paid Zoo admission.

11:59 a.m. Beach ball drop countdowns begin in the Education and Conference Center in the Scott Aquarium and the Wild Kingdom Pavilion
